Friendship Feast features K-8 ribbon cutting

Gardner Pilot Academy held a Friendship Feast at the school on Friday, June 8. Despite thunderstorms, hundreds of students, parents, staff, elected officials and community partners gathered to celebrate another successful year and to cut a ribbon in honor of the expansion to a K-8 school beginning next year. Watch a video of the ceremony.

Through sponsorships, raffles, and a silent auction, the event raised nearly $10,000 for Playworks physical activity programs!

We have many people to thank, including:

  • Elected officials and other community leaders for attending the celebration;
  • Local businesses and other organizations that donated items for the silent auction, bought ads in the program book, and provided food for the event;
  • Mr. Bruce Houghton of Houghton Chemical in Allston for a generous donation of $2,000;
  • Allston’s Orchard Skate Shop for an impressive skating demonstration;
  • Tim McHale for wonderful live music performance;
  • Dr. Carroll Blake, BPS Director for the Achievement Gap, for another great magic show;
  • 15 Boston Latin School students from the Wolfpack Volunteer Organization for running the children’s games;
  • And above all, the parents, staff, and students who worked so hard to make the event a great success!
SPECIAL OFFER… It’s not too late to contribute to this event while giving a child a summer experience to remember for a lifetime!  Camp Cody, a premier New England summer camp nestled on the sandy beaches of Lake Ossipee amidst the White Mountains of New Hampshire, has donated to GPA four two-week summer camp sessions for children ages 7-13. Available dates are June 24 – July 7 or August 5-18. A camp session, valued at $2,800, can be yours for a donation of $1,000 (plus an additional $100 per session paid to Camp Cody to cover out-of-camp trips and canteen charges).
