Secretary of Education John King Visits GPA

After giving a lunchtime keynote address at the Education Writers Association conference today, U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. headed to Gardner Pilot Academy to speak with a group of Boston public school educators about diversity in the teaching force. Across the country, nonwhite students now outnumber whites, and yet the teaching force remains predominantly white and female. Black male teachers are the most underrepresented group. This Fall our Kindergarten and 1st grade students had the opportunity to visit Tougas Farm for apple picking as well as the ART for a performance of The Pirate Princess, our 4th grade students went to Plimoth Plantation as an extension of their history unit, 2nd 3rd graders were hosted at Boston college for a day of Halloween fun, 7th graders were hosted at Harvard University to learn about college life, 6th and 8th graders visited the Museum of Science for the Science of Pixar exhibit, 1st graders to the Harvard Museum of Natural History, 8th graders to the Boston Globe, Copley Library and...
