The 3rd annual Gardner Pilot Academy Walk-a-thon will take place on Wednesday, April 4, with a rain date of Thursday, April 5. This fun event is both a fundraiser and an opportunity to promote health and wellness in the GPA community. Students and families are invited to collect pledges to support physical activity programs offered at GPA through Playworks. Pledge forms are available hereĀ or from your child’s teacher and the main office at the school. Prizes will be awarded to the class and the individual students who raise the most funds. GPA paraprofessional Andre Callicutt recently completed a 100-mile bicycle ride, from the John F. Kennedy Library in Dorchester to Hyannis Port on Cape Cod, to raise funds for Best Buddies. After his first year of working in a kindergarten inclusion classroom, Andre was inspired to support the program’s mission of providing mentors, employment opportunities and leadership development to students with disabilities. GPA teacher runs the Boston Marathon for cancer research

Alyssa Sinel, a kindergarten teacher at GPA, ran the Boston Marathon this year with the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge to raise funds for cancer research. Running in honor of a colleague fighting the disease, Alyssa has raised more than $5,000, and is still accepting donations for this worthy cause. “This has been an amazing experience,” she said. “I’ve been inspired by everyone I work with at GPA throughout this process.”
