Ongoing, meaningful family engagement is key to the success of Gardner Pilot Academy and the students we serve. Parents and other caregivers are our most important partners. We welcome and encourage families to play an active role in their children’s education, both at school and at home.
Parent participation takes many forms at GPA. A decade ago, only a handful of parents were actively involved in the school. Today, parents work and volunteer at the school, and more than 200 parents participate in potluck dinners, field trips, and school-wide events. In 1997, only 25% of Gardner parents attended parent/teacher conferences. Today, 98% of parents participate — a testament to the level of commitment GPA families have to their students’ success.
The school’s Parent & Family Engagement Director, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, works closely with families to ensure their participation in the school community – including conducting school tours, publicizing school activities, and connecting parents with programs and services at the school.
GPA’s Family and Community Outreach Committee hosts several major family events every year to engage the school community in learning and celebration.
Parents also have access to free English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes through the Gardner Adult Education Program.
