Boston Partners in Education has recognized two longstanding Gardner Pilot Academy business partners for their volunteer efforts at the school. Mark R. DiOrio and Kerin O. Petitti from The Bulfinch Companies, Inc., are the recipients of the 2011 Joyna Bozzotto Award.

DiOrio and Petitti are General Counsel and Legal Assistant, respectively, at the Needham-based real estate investment and development firm. The pair has participated in the Power Lunch program at the Gardner for the past 10 years. The program sparks enthusiasm for reading in first through third graders by matching students with reading mentors from participating corporations in the Boston area.

Karleigh Rose Pettit, Program Manager at Boston Partners in Education, said, “I nominated Mark and Kerin for this award because for 10 or more years, they have both shown an extraordinary commitment to volunteerism through their participation in Power Lunch.  They truly go the extra mile — both literally and figuratively — as they make the trek from Needham to the Gardner each week to develop meaningful relationships with their students.”

Bulfinch CEO Eric Schlager said, “We are thrilled that Mark and Kerin have been chosen for this outstanding honor. Since its inception, Bulfinch has consistently encouraged and provided opportunities for its employees to give back to the community and those less fortunate.  Mark and Kerin are superior examples of the type of dedicated, philanthropic and charitable individuals that we are proud to have on our team.”
