On December 16th, GPA held its first school wide Celebration of Writing. More than 120 families attended in K-0 through 8th grade to explore the writing process. While the elementary school families visited their children’s classrooms to see samples of their work, middle school families were welcomed by staff with a short presentation on the GPA’s Scholarly Writing Expectations. After the presentations, families moved on to 30-minute workshops in their children’s classrooms. Lastly, the workshops ended with a showcase of student projects with teachers providing families with feedback about their child’s work. All families were invited to a potluck dinner planned by Parent Council as well as to our GPA’s annual Book Fair. Special thanks to the Office of Family and Student Engagement and Harvard University for supporting the planning and facilitation of this wonderful event.

Back to School Night

On September 23rd 2015, GPA held Back to School Night for all families. Many GPA partners were present to share the ways in which they can support students academically, socially and emotionally. Families were invited into student classrooms for an opportunity to connect with teachers and other families. In middle school, families were able to participate in middle school specific workshops with their student. Of particular note is that 50% of 8th grade families were in attendance, a great accomplishment for that age group. Overall, the night was a huge success with over 200 attendees.
