At its annual volunteer recognition event, this year called AMP! (Academic Mentors Party), Boston Partners in Education presented two awards to adults who support students at Gardner Pilot Academy.

The Nicholas A. Lopardo Corporate Partner Award was presented to Genzyme for its employees’ longstanding involvement at GPA. For 11 years, Genzyme has participated in Power Lunch at the school. Genzyme’s volunteer program is entirely employee-initiated, and this year, the company nearly doubled its participation. Fourteen employees mentor 12 students in grades one through three. Genzyme’s volunteers have gone above and beyond in their support of mentoring by attending Boston Partners in Education’s events and organizing a team for the Power Lunch “Read-a-Thon.”

The Family Engagement Award was presented to Patricia Emery. Her daughters attended GPA, and her sons are enrolled in the school now. Patricia is a Boston Public Schools alumna herself, having graduated from Boston Latin School.  She is an active parent in every sense of the word, attending events and supporting the school in many roles, including serving on the parent council.
